To paraphrase Plato, you will be more productive when you are free of distractions and perform the right tasks at the right time. In all fairness, he said to choose one occupation in addition to the rest. However, what he’s essentially saying is that you will be more productive when you do the right things. To break that down, here are eight ways to boost your productivity.

1. Consider What You Want in Life

Before you can think about tasks, you need to think about what makes you tick. It’s easy to get off-track. For instance, you might want to earn more money, but you end up pursuing something that makes you truly grumpy and gives you stress. By reevaluating what you want in life, you can decide on what you do every day.

2. Redefine Your Goals

If you’re going to be productive, you will need to think of the reason you are doing what you’re doing. Without clear goals, you’ll be all over the place. You can’t be productive if you have too many things to do in the day.

3. Get Rid of Whatever Doesn’t Pertain to What You Want in Life

There are many distractions you can fall into, if you let yourself. It can be hard to identify these distractions at times. A good way to identify your distractions is to write them down whenever you find yourself going away from the task at-hand. You will soon see how often these distractions pop up. Aversion to your distractions will become second-nature.

4. Group Your To-Do List Into Chunks

You can divide up your to-do list into 30-minute bits of time, or you can break it up in another way. For those 30 minutes, do nothing but focus on your task. You can’t carry this on all day. You will need to take breaks. You can divide up your to-do list tasks with relaxation, self-care, exercise or having fun.

5. Take Time to Relax

Hopefully, you have made time to have fun in your life while considering what you want in life. Be sure to change up your activities. Your activities should include keeping in-touch with close friends, making time to spend time with family, pursuing your hobbies, taking up new hobbies and anything else you desire.

6. Get Good Rest

Adults average 90 minutes per sleep cycle, and you want to try to get four to five sleep cycles per night. If you wake up in the middle of one of these cycles, you will feel groggy. Five sleep cycles is just seven-and-a-half hours of sleep. Try focusing on this amount of sleep. If you need more, add an extra sleep cycle.

7. Eat Clean

The food you eat affects how you function in day-to-day life. Trying to eat healthy here and there doesn’t do you a whole lot of good. Sodium, cholesterol, simple carbohydrates and chemicals can impede how you think, how much energy you have, whether you suffer from things like high blood pressure and other conditions. Focus on cooking everything from scratch, If that thought terrifies you, it’s easier than you think. You can also do meal prep at the beginning of the week.

8. Make Time to Exercise

Exercise helps provide blood to the brain and encourages clear thought. It also helps to get rid of stress. Exercise doesn’t have to be long and tedious. You can have fun with it. Run around in crazy circles, play tag with your kids, run from pretend monsters, try solo “synchronized” swimming, or commit to doing Zumba in your living room. There are no rules on exercise. You just need to get moving, and you might as well have fun.Being productive boils down to doing the right things at the right time. Plato was right.
